Blast Equipment Servicing
Abrasive blasting equipment undergoes significant stresses during operation and, over time, requires maintenance and care. Ensuring your equipment is in full working order, with up-to-date testing documentation, is essential. Doing so is critical to complying with HSE regulations and reducing potential losses incurred by downtime, exacerbated by a lack of scheduled maintenance and servicing.
At Airblast, our technicians and engineers are focused on delivering quality, reliability, and efficiency in our abrasive blasting equipment. Whether on-site or delivered to us, we can calibrate, service, and repair blast machines, RPE, PPE, and compressors. We can also keep you compliant by testing and maintaining blast equipment to the latest standards outlined by legislation and regulation.
We offer total servicing, maintenance, and inspection for abrasive blasting equipment, whether on-site or sent to us.
- PPE inspections for blast suits, gloves, and boots.
- RPE servicing and maintenance for breathing air filtration units.
- Compressor servicing and testing
- Grit blasting machines (blast pots)
- Vacuum blasting machines
- Formal (COSHH) inspections of blast helmet respirators
- Gas detection equipment servicing and calibration
Scheduled Maintenance and calibration
It is paramount that abrasive blasting equipment is maintained to ensure it complies with legislation and regulations (Pressure Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016).
Scheduled maintenance and calibration must be conducted to guarantee your kit is fit for use and has the correct and current test documentation. Our technicians and engineers follow regulated equipment issue and inspection procedures to ensure all equipment is safe and maintained to legal standards.
Only authorised persons are permitted to inspect and service abrasive blasting equipment. Our team of technicians and engineers are trained to exacting standards, ensuring that your kit is maintained and can be depended on when you need it the most.
Recommended Inspection Schedules
Inspection and testing are vital for workplace safety. Whatever your requirements, thanks to our stringent inspection and testing procedures, you can trust that you’re protecting yourself, your team, and your business.
Grit blasting machines (blast pots)
According to HSE guidelines, blast pots must be pressure tested every 22 months. Pressure vessels are dangerous when worn and must be inspected and tested to ensure you aren't risking yourself or those around you. For best practice, operators must perform regular checks, divided into daily and weekly actions.
Breathing Apparatus & Respiratory Equipment
Blast helmet respirators should be inspected daily, sanitised and cleaned, and serviced annually.
Airline Breathing Equipment
As HSE regulations stipulate, breathing air tests MUST be conducted every 400 hours or every three months, whichever comes first. Breathing air tests are an HSE requirement for manufacturers and contractors working in hazardous environments. Breathing in compromised air from an airline-fed blast helmet can be potentially life-threatening. In addition, employers have a duty of care to their employees to have these tests undertaken.
Air Compressors
For best practice, air compressors should be serviced annually or every 2,000 hours, whichever comes first, determined by activity levels. Airblast can offer servicing for various brands, including Hertz, Atlas Copco, and Abac. For a more detailed list, please follow this link.
Gas detectors
Gas monitors, like GVS RPB GX4, require calibration after prolonged usage. This can be anywhere from 6 months to 2 years, depending on the gas monitor. Check the manufacturer to find out how often yours needs calibration, or if it fails a bump test, send it to us for service.
